- 1 tsp salt
- 1/2 cup whole milk, warmed
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 3 large eggs
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- Vegetable oil for frying
- Powdered sugar for dusting
Instructions:
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, yeast, and salt.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the warm milk, melted butter, eggs, and vanilla extract.
- Add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, and mix until a dough forms.
- Knead the dough for 5-7 minutes on a floured surface until it becomes smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp towel, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
- Punch down the dough, and roll it out on a floured surface into a rectangle that is about 1/2 inch thick.
- Cut the dough into strips that are about 1 inch wide and 4 inches long.
- Take each strip and twist it in the middle to form a twisted shape.
- Heat about 2 inches of vegetable oil in a heavy-bottomed pot or deep fryer until it reaches 350°F.
- Carefully place a few twisted donuts in the hot oil at a time, and fry for 2-3 minutes on each side, or until golden brown.
- Remove the donuts with a slotted spoon, and place them on a wire rack to cool.
- Once the donuts are cool, dust them with powdered sugar and serve.
